Blog Tour: Five Ways to Fall by K.A. Tucker

Sometimes you can’t change—and sometimes you just don’t want to. Discover Ben’s side of the story in this fourth novel by the beloved, top-selling indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths,One Tiny Lie, and Four Seconds to Lose.

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

I have loved this series from the beginning and all the characters I have met along the way because of it. But out of all of them, Ben snuck in and reserved a special place in my heart. So, when I found out he was getting his own book I was BEYOND excited AND nervous all at the same time. I was happy to get his story but scared that he wouldn't get the HEA I wanted for him. I should've known better than to be concerned though. These are K.A. Tucker's babies after all, she would never give them an ending that wasn't PERFECT!

Ben meets Reese his last night on vacation and figures she is the perfect girl to end his week in Cancun with. Factor in that she has gone a few too many rounds with Mr. Cuervo and Ben figures it will be a night to remember. It is, only not in the way he was thinking! When things don't go as expected, he chalks it up to a crazy night in Cancun with a beautiful purple haired girl that he won't soon forget. They part ways without so much as a goodbye and that is fine with Reese. Because there is no way they'd ever see each other again, right?

WRONG!

Fate would never be that kind, especially to Reese. She is having a run of bad luck and Ben walking into her place of employment as the newest employee proves things aren't going to get better anytime soon. He was the LAST person she ever wanted to see again as he was witness to one of her less than stellar performances. And let's just say, Ben is taking delight in her total discomfort with memories of their night together.

This book had me cracking up at only 10% in and didn't let up until the end. Not to say it was all fun and games, because it wasn't. But Reese's quick wit and Ben's even quicker comebacks kept their story from getting too heavy. Some examples of the banter between these two....
"Have you always loved yourself this much?'
"I had an awkward year in ninety-nine, but I got over it quick."

"Babe, the only way a wedding ring is landing on this finger of mine is if I'm in a coffin."
"You might be in one by the end of the night."

And while these two have some mad attraction, there is a whole host of obstacles that stand in their way. One, Reese is still very much hung up on her ex, Jared. Second is the fact that Ben doesn't "do" relationships. Add in that pesky rule at work about no hook ups with coworkers and well, these two have about zero chance of ever having any type of relationship. But the problem is, the more time they spend together, the more they realize they WANT to find a way to make it work. Is it possible??

Five Ways to Fall was a GREAT end to this series! If you have not picked up any of the books yet, I highly recommend doing so ASAP. Check out my reviews of the Ten Tiny Breaths, One Tiny Lie and Four Seconds to Lose via the links below.

Reese
I’ve been eviscerated on a Monday morning. My guts are splayed all over the dark gray office carpet for all to see.
And I can’t breathe.
What the hell is this guy doing in my office?
He’s as shocked as I am, obviously. That loud boom of “holy shit!” that probably carried through half the floor and has all the little old hens peering over their bifocals at us can attest to that.
And now he’s staring at me with wide, disbelieving eyes. “Jill? Is that you?”
“You don’t recognize your one true love?” That might have sounded witty had my voice not been shaky and my cheeks not been burning hot. For a pro player like this guy, the fact that he remembers my fake name says something. I was definitely memorable.
“You look so . . .” His voice drifts off as those baby-blue eyes roll over my all-blond hair and land on my face. “No more piercings?”
Not trusting myself to speak again, I tap the pinhead-sized diamond stud in my nostril. I’ve taken the septum ring and the majority of my ear piercings out, though. Part of this whole “new me” thing I’m trying.
Ben’s head bobs up and down slowly as if still trying to process this. Then his focus drifts down to my chest and his eyes narrow. I swear he’s trying to make out the outline of the metal ring that’s hidden there.
And I’m trying to control the hyperbolic flashback that took weeks to suppress—there’s just no way vomit shoots out of a person like a fire hose!—as the walking, breathing proof of one of my most mortifying nights stands in my office.

Born in small-town Ontario, Kathleen published her first book at the age of six with the help of her elementary school librarian and a box of crayons. She is a voracious reader and the farthest thing from a genre-snob, loving everything from High Fantasy to Chick Lit. Kathleen currently resides in a quaint small town outside of Toronto with her husband, two beautiful girls, and an exhausting brood of four-legged creatures.
