Four Seconds to Lose (Book #3 of the Ten Tiny Breaths Series)
By: K.A. Tucker
Release Date: November 4th

Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine year old Cain is starting to second guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with the staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control…and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that.

Twenty-two-year old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting and dancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her doesn’t need to complicate her life with romance.

Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.

This series hooked me from the very first book. When I finished Ten Tiny Breaths, I was in love with not only the author's writing ability but also all the characters she gave to us in that first story. See, this series is one where the supporting characters will intrigue you just as much as the main ones. And that held very true for Cain. So, imagine how happy I was when I heard he was getting his very own book!

And just like with the previous two books, Ms. Tucker did not disappoint. She snags you from the first chapter. We learn much about the mysterious, sexy strip club owner in those first few pages. And as the story progresses, so many things begin to click and the enigma that in Cain slowly begins to be solved. He has truly been battling some serious demons. My heart broke for him when I learned all the things from his past that he has been blaming himself for.

The same can be said for Charlie. She has been pushed in to a life she never wanted, but felt guilted into. As her story unfolds, you will begin to understand why she wants to escape it. But in order for her to do that, it requires her to create a persona that is not real. A Charlie that doesn't really exist. What she wasn't bargaining on was making friends along the way. And most importantly, she never expected Cain.

I was seriously gripping my iPad pretty intensely throughout this book. The closer Cain and Charlie became, the more my concern grew. Not only for a Charlie and the consequences of what would happen when her secrets were revealed, but also for Cain. He is such a closed off person and to see him opening himself up to Charlie the way he did, had be worried she would break his heart. I knew she cared for him, but I found myself asking if what they feel strong enough to overcome the truth?

This book has a completely different vibe than the first two books, which seems to be the trend with this series. The author gives each of her characters their own voice and unique set of circumstances. That is one of the things I love most about this series. The fact that each book can be read as a stand-alone (why you'd not want to read ALL of them is beyond me!) but it still allows you to revisit some of the characters you met and loved in the other books.

I am now eagerly awaiting the next book in the series, which is Ben's! I would also love to see Nate get his own book. There is definitely a story there!
