Review: A Different Blue by Amy Harmon

5+ Hearts

Goodreads Summary
Blue Echohawk doesn't know who she is. She doesn't know her real name or when she was born. Abandoned at two and raised by a drifter, she didn't attend school until she was ten years old. At nineteen, when most kids her age are attending college or moving on with life, she is just a senior in high school. With no mother, no father, no faith, and no future, Blue Echohawk is a difficult student, to say the least. Tough, hard and overtly sexy, she is the complete opposite of the young British teacher who decides he is up for the challenge, and takes the troublemaker under his wing.

This is the story of a nobody who becomes somebody. It is the story of an unlikely friendship, where hope fosters healing and redemption becomes love. But falling in love can be hard when you don't know who you are. Falling in love with someone who knows exactly who they are and exactly why they can't love you back might be impossible.

Have you ever read a book that makes your chest hurt? That has your heart beating so fast it feels like it will beat itself right out? Or makes you cry tears of pain and joy, of sadness and happiness? Well, you will get all of those things with A Different Blue and so much more.

This book is not about sex, drugs or rock n roll. It is not about the trials and heartbreaks of college life. It is about a girl named Blue. It is her journey from a girl to a woman. And all the obstacles she has to face on her way there. Some are those of a typical girl. The fitting in, making friends and self discovery. But Blue's journey also is unique. She has to face and overcome so much in her young life that many 90 year olds would never have to endure.

It is all of those things combined that make this book so appealing. It pulls you into Blue's life and keeps you hooked until the end. You become so enamored with this girl, that you want to see her succeed. You want her to find the answers she so desperately needs. You want her to get the guy. You want her to get her HEA.

A Different Blue is just what the title says, it is different. This book had me feeling emotions I have never felt before while reading. I was crying at points where typically I would be happy, for reasons I can not even begin to explain. And as I stated in the beginning, it caused a powerful ache in my chest. But there were moments that my heart was so full of pride for Blue. For the changes she made, for her selfless acts and for her forgiving heart.

I could seriously go on and on about this book. I loved it that much. But I am going to end my review here by saying, this book is one that you must read. It is an experience like no other. Blue Echohawk touched my heart in a way unlike any other character. A Different Blue is definitely one of the best books I have ever read.
