Try Me by Olivia Cunning

Try Me (One Night with Sole Regret #1)

by Olivia Cunning

Also found at:  Ms. Reality's Goodreads

Melanie doesn't want to be there, but her best friend Nikki has dragged her along to yet another Sole Regret concert. When Nikki leaves her yet again, Melanie runs into (literally) a hot hunk of a man.

Being an awesome drummer, Gabe "Force" usually needs no introduction, except with Melanie. She somehow turns him inside out and for one night they have no regrets.

My Thoughts:

Try Me is a very short novella and the beginning to the Sole Regret Series. As with all Olivia's books, this is super hot and sexy. Love scenes are explicit and burning hot! Loved the elevator scene!

I loved Gabe and his vulnerability. The way she shut down for a bit when Mel was talking to the other guys, like he wasn't sure of himself was touching. Even though he's 'a force to be reckoned with;' he is so sweet. He made my mouth water!

Melanie seemed innocent at first, but well figured out--not so much! Who wouldn't want to have a hot fling with a hot man!

This was one of the few novellas I have read. I usually steer clear of them because i like to get to know the characters much more than 100 pages! Even though short it was a great start to the series. I'm ready to read the next.

After loosing his father, Trick must drop out of college and help his mom not lose everything. Trick gets a job with a local horse breeder and when his bosses beautiful daughter, Cami, comes home from college he is hypnotized by her violet eyes. One problem--boss-man tells Trick hands off and Trick needs the job to help his family out.

My Thoughts:

This was a cute little bubblegum romance with a pretty bow on it. I did like the storyline, but it isn't my everyday read (trying to expand myself).

I am a country girl so the setting pulled me in right away. I admit I don't know the first thing about horses, but I didn't feel lost in the story. I did like the build up throughout the story with Trick and Cami's relationship.

Trick and Cami are very likable characters who I could relate to. Trick---swoon! HOTNESS!!!! He can take his shirt off anytime!

The ending seemed a bit rushed. It skipped lots and lots for me. The author could have included all the drama between the families and Cami's father--it just skipped over it, with a couple line explanation of it. I would have liked more details.

Overall, good lipstick romance. Not much sexual explanation and you pretty much know the ending, but overall cute read.

Hardworking journalist, Abbie Marshall is in a bit of a jam and needs to get out of Honduras immediately.  The only way is to hop on a private jet with Hollywood heart-throb Jack Winter, under the pretense of interviewing him.  Abbie is instantly mesmerized with Jack’s unbelievable looks and his playful attitude.

When the plane goes down in the rainforest, Abbie has to put trust in Jack to get her out alive.  Abbie sees sides of Jack that intrigue her and brings out parts of herself that she didn’t know existed.

Upon returning to America, neither Jack nor Abbie can stop thinking about each other.  They have a connection that they need to explore, but there are many things that Abbie doesn’t know about Jack.  She must figure out if his secrets are hers too.

------

My Thoughts:

I was drawn into this book during the first two chapters.  There was so much action and excitement that I couldn’t put it down!

It did have a BDSM theme, but it was not overly done and definitely not hard-core.  I love how it was a progression throughout the story of learning what BDSM is and what happens during a dom/sub relationship.  The authors did not just throw it up in the air. It was very well explained and Abbie’s feelings/emotions on the lifestyle were very well written.  I also loved how Jack explained everything to Abbie and was so patient.

I also loved that it wasn’t a ‘jump into bed with me now’ story.  It had build-up and excitement.  The sexual tension was thick and exciting.  I loved Jack’s jealousy and his caveman antics.

Abbie was a strong character; independent, smart, focused and endearing.  I loved how she had a backbone and knew how to use it.  I also loved her journey of discovering her sexual desires.  She was so apprehensive and I could feel it thought the writing.

Jack---swoon----- Irish accent, hot 6 pack abs, unbelievable body and pure Dom, but yet patient and thoughtful—what’s not to love?  Jack has his demons that he has been hiding which pulls you in more to him.  Loved him!

I do have some unanswered questions though.  I am hoping that there is a book 2 that continues this story, because I would like the answers.

Overall, AWESOME book!  If you are a fan of Fifty Shades of Grey or Bared to You—you must read this book.  I highly recommend reading it!

Quick Summary:

Five year old Eva meets twenty-three year old Deuce at Riker’s Island visiting her dad, president of the Demons Motorcycle Club.  Eva has an instant connection with Deuce.  After many chance encounters spanning many years, their connection grows.

My Thoughts:

I’ve been reading lots of hype about this book and thought I would check it out.  Hmmmm…..

This is not a traditional love story by any means.  This is a messed up, twisted relationship about two people who can’t seem to keep away from each other.

I was really taken aback with the fact that a five year old could be so descriptive about a man including commented on his eyes.  Really?  I’m thinking not.  This made it very difficult for me to get going with this book.  I kept shutting my eyes thinking, what the hell???? I also found it difficult keeping track of how old she was throughout their encounters and during some encounters I wanted to scream at Deuce!  What was he thinking!?!

The other thing I had to look past was the disrespectful language.  I am always up for a good alpha male. I thrive on reading them, but when the alpha is telling everyone to respect women; then every other word out of his mouth is b****, c*** or w*****, I tend to lose respect in him.  It was hard to get past.

Eva was easy to like.  The way she was written made me want to like her, heck even be friends with her.  I loved that she was her own person growing up, even if she was surrounded by a bunch a biker boys.  I also liked that she was a survivor.  It was also awesome to see all the biker guys fawning over her and treating her like the princess of the club; with all her ‘uncles’ taking care of her.  I also felt like she didn’t have a choice with Frankie.  She was just stuck.  My heart felt for her.

I wanted to like Deuce and there were parts that I kinda did, but there were very few of those.  His treatment of women and Eva was repulsive.  I couldn’t feel his redeeming qualities other than the brief description of his father.  I didn’t feel him.  The passiveness of an alpha was there, but I didn’t feel the protectivess and love.

Overall an okay story.

Thoughtless is an emotionally charged well developed story that had me never wanting to put it down!

Very Brief Summary:

After moving to Seattle to be with her boyfriend, Denny, Kiera discovers that love can be difficult, beautiful, painful, and spontaneous and heart wrenching.  Kellen Kyle, Kiera and Denny’s roommate, proves to be the cause of her anguish.

My Thoughts:

Thoughtless is an emotional rollercoaster ride full of love, lust, deception, lies and betrayal.  I was pulled in from the first few pages.  The character development was some of the best I have read.  SC was so detailed and thoughtful in writing, pulling me in at every turn.  I connected on some level (even if only a little with Kiera) with each of the characters.  It may have been love, lust or loathing, but I still connected.

I also loved that each event in the book flowed so wonderfully.  From this scene to that, they all entertwined so beautifully.  Even though the book was quite long, I didn’t feel it while reading.

There was so much back and forth between all of the characters and their feelings.  One minute, I want to scream and strangle—the next I want to hold and comfort!

I also loved how intense some of the scenes were.  I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.  The way they were writing brought on an extra level of intensity.

I LOVED Kellen!  Rock-god, bad-boy, hotter than hell man, was in my dreams many times since reading this book.  At first, I thought—what is he doing???  But, I couldn’t help but fall in love with him.  The anguish of his character pulled me in and I locked on tight.

I wanted to like Kiera. I really did, but I didn’t.  I still don’t.  There were parts that I did have a moment of understanding in the inner turmoil she was going through, but overall I just wanted to slap her!  I’m not going to rant and rave about her…even though I could, but I have to say I didn’t feel as if she deserved either man.

I would say this book is a MUST READ for everyone into romance novels.  It is beautifully written and I couldn’t put it down.  Now, I have to get up enough emotional courage to read Effortless!!!!!!!

WOW!!!  This book was so much more that I was expecting!

After learning the unexpected news of her police officer brother’s death, Lacie Daughtry turns to his best friends Mason and Tyler for support.

Even though Lacie has thrown herself at Mason and Tyler, they have rebuffed her advances.  But when they are all three lost in grief and Lacie comes into danger, the men must protect her.

My Thoughts:

HOLY HELL!!!  This book was so hot it made my kindle smoke!  Not only are there some of the hottest scenes in this book; there is also a great story too!  This book has m/f; m/m; and m/m/f scenes that are very detailed.

This author is very descriptive throughout the book, including the sights and smells.  She made me feel as if I was there in vivid color.

I loved the emotions!  Oh MY!  The first few pages had me choked up.  Then throughout the entire book I could feel Mason, Tyler and Lacie’s emotions which were so strong!  LOVED IT!

Highly recommended!

I devoured this book!  Ha. Okay seriously. This was a really good read.

Rushing home to Nashville to help her grandma save her home was not on Sienna Jenson’s to do list.  Finding out the new owner is none other than the rock star, Lucas Wolfe, which she spent a wild night with 2 years ago, was a huge shocker as well.

When Lucas comes up with a proposition for Sienna to save her grandmother’s home, Sienna has no choice but to do it.  Can Sienna follow all of Lucas’s rules and get her grandmother’s home back?

My Thoughts:

Even though the book was short, I got back story from the characters.  I found out the ‘why’ in most instances.  That is a huge plus for me when enjoying a book.

Lucas was hotter than hell in my mind; rock god with tattoos all over and domineering as hell!  What’s not to love??

I loved watching Sienna’s growth throughout the story.  I love how she found her voice and was able to use it!  I also loved how she cared so much about her grandma to do anything for her.

My downfall with the book was the sex scenes.  I thought they could have uses some more spice.  They were just kinda there.

I really didn’t like the ending of the book because I wanted to know why!  What happened??  It left me hanging.  But as I looked on Emily’s goodreads page, she has another book coming out that is the second in this series.  I am hoping that I will find out those answers in that book!  I will definitely be reading it!

Married for 15 years, Jessica and Alex have a rock solid marriage, except after Jessica finds a love for reading erotic books.  How can she explain to her husband the kink she wants to try in the bedroom?  Will he run?
My Thoughts:
The author did a wonderful job expressing the ups and downs of a marriage when it comes to sex.  It was well thought out and feelings were expressed in a way that I totally understood and got it.  The author did a great job with the POVs of both the characters and I felt everything from them. The doubt, hurt, love, lust, apprehension, curiosity were all displayed so well, considering it was a very short book. This did impress me.
Overall wonderful book for married couples who are having a hard time with getting some kink!  It was almost like therapy!

As a firefighter and Dom, Carter has had his eye on Paige for a while.  Carter sees a submissive hiding in Paige and is curious.  Little does Carter know, Paige has closed herself off to the lifestyle.  Carter vows to find out why.

My thoughts:

Even though this was a very short read, the author did a great job in developing the characters.  Carter was so loving, patient and sexy as hell!  He gave Paige time to get her head together and didn’t push her.

I loved Paige.  She is so strong and stubborn, yet so vulnerable in dealing with her past issues.  I loved how she had to fix things herself and fought for it.

The Dom/Sub scenes were so realistic that I could totally relate.  The author did an awesome job at her descriptions.

I also liked that there was a sub-story with Paige’s brother, Ian and ‘Blue Eyes.’  I believe Ian is the star of one of the books in the author’s series.

Overall—This book was the best part of this “The Theory of Attraction” Book

My thoughts:
This was a hard read for me.  There were, I guess you call them scientific terms, in that had me saying huh?  It was a bit of a turn off for me.  I also could not get past the whole, geek with 6 pack abs thing.  I guess my imagination wasn’t flying when I read because I couldn’t picture him.  Therefore couldn’t get that connection with him.  I found myself skimming a lot.

Overall:  4.5 rounded to 5

Sizzle:  Freaking Burning!

Holy Hell!  I haven’t read many m/m/f or m/m books.  I’m sort of a virgin with it.  This book opened my eyes wide!  HOT!

Josh Scott owns a hot BDSM club, Mavericks, but is feeling the need for change.  Before he makes any changes, he feels that he needs to play matchmaker.  His beautiful club manager, Beth Norris and hot sexy head bartender, Oliver Stephenson, are on his list.  Josh has watched these two, but has hidden his own feelings for them.  He feels that if they are together and happy it will be enough for him.  Josh is openly bisexual, but hasn’t crossed that line with them.  Josh has many demons haunting him and has not found ways to let go of his past.  He feels he doesn’t deserve to have it all.

Beth has had the hots for Josh since she started working for him 2 years ago.  She has kept these feelings to herself with only a mild flirtation between the two of them.  But with working in the BDSM club, it has opened her eyes to her own sexual needs.

Oliver is trying to work through his problems.  He’s trying pick up the pieces of his life, but not doing such a good job at it.  He is very conflicted about his sexual feelings.  He is very attracted to Beth and Josh, but insists that he is straight.

The flood gates open in a night of mind-blowing sex.  Could it work between the three of them?

There is also a major twist that I didn’t see coming!  I love it when that happens.

My Thoughts:

OMG!  The sex scenes are hotter than hell!  I think my kindle started smoking!  I didn’t even know some of that was possible!  Big eye opener for me!

I loved Josh.  He was dominate and sweet.  I could feel his torment with everything he had to go through growing up.  I wanted to reach into the book and hug him.  I was angry with him for pushing the other two away, but I understood why he did it.  I felt it.  I love how he was trying to look out for both Beth and Oliver.

Beth was hot in my book.  She came off as sexy and strong.  I like that she was both a dominate and a submissive.  I loved seeing both sides of her.  I liked that even though these two men were in her life she was still strong and didn’t take any shit.

Oliver, oh Oliver.  I felt so bad for him.  I wanted to wipe away what that bitch did to him.  I loved how the author fielded his torment of loving a man.  Oliver was so conflicted about his feelings for Josh stating first that he was straight.  It never came across that he had any issues with being gay, but it was just that he never explored it.

I did love the way the author talked about the anguish of deciding whether you can love a man and a woman or two men.  What would their families think?  What would society think? Could they live together and do this?  It is a hard topic for society.  Everyone has preconceived notions and I love that the author tackled these.
Overall, great read.  Would recommend it!

Folding Hearts (Mitchell Family #2)

Folding Hearts begins where Letting Go (Full Review here Ms. Reality's Review of Letting Go ) left off.

Ty lost the girl, Van; he thought he was going to spend the rest of his life with. Why?? Because he cheated and she caught him.  He ended up spending 7 months in a coma to wake up and find “his girl” fell in love with his cousin Colt.

Ty is feeling very alone since this loss.  All of his friends are either dating someone or party to hard even for him.

Miranda is a single mom who wants desperately for her baby daddy to be a family with her.  Problem is---he’s an ass.

Ty and Miranda know each other because Colt is both of their cousins.  (Yeah—I know wrapping my head around that took a little bit, but technically they are not blood)  And—Ty helped deliver Miranda’s baby in book #1.

Ty goes to visit Colt and sees Miranda.  Let’s just say that Miranda’s family is not happy with anything to do with Ty because of his history with women.

But sparks ignite—we get a bit of love, hate, confusion, hurt (in more ways than one), lust and an asshole of a baby daddy.

My Thoughts:

First off after the first book, I could not stand Ty.  He was an ass and I didn’t think I would every get past it.  Well, I kinda did.  I liked how the author expressed his regret and pain he felt in coming to terms with what he did.  He knows he made his own bed in losing Van and has to deal with it. I loved the connection between Ty and Izzy (Miranda’s daughter).  I thought that it was strange in the beginning their connection and was wondering if Ty just wanted to have Izzy as his kid.  Since Miranda was his mom, well she came with the package.  But the author wrote it so it ended up being believable.  I think the scenes with Izzy and Ty helped to break away some of the ice I had around my heart for him.

I liked how we had two points of view throughout the book.  Each chapter was designated for either Ty or Miranda.  I enjoyed feeling their feelings throughout the book.

My biggest downfall with the book is the lack of closure between Miranda and her baby daddy.  What happened?  Was the question I kept asking myself.  It was like….poof…..gone.  Hmm….

I also tried to get how Miranda trusted Ty so much, but that was a hard one for me.  I know that Ty was flawed, but it was hard.  That’s more of a personal thing than the book I think!

Overall a good read.  I did like this one better than the first.

I received an email from the author and there will be 5 books total.

Book 1 Ty-Colt-Van

Book 2 Ty-Miranda

Book 3 Colt-Van

Book 4 Ty-Miranda

Book 5 Conner

(Maybe there will be some closure after all with the baby daddy??)

Summary from Goodreads

They call themselves the Three Musketeers: three lifelong friends, men who will put it all on the line in the name of honor and loyalty. Jarrett McCullough values those bonds as seriously as he values his job heading a covert group of operatives skilled in handling sensitive international information. But his current mission has suddenly gone very wrong—and he finds himself wounded and near death in the last place he ever expected to be.

Rae Gannon is stunned to find her ex-boss bleeding from a gunshot wound, mere paces from her front door. It has been two years since her move to the remote Blue Ridge Mountains, where she tried to erase the memories and the pain she suffered from having been part of McCullough’s team. Yet as Rae tends to Jarrett’s battered body she realizes that the air between them is still sizzling with a slow-burning need. But this time there are more than just hearts at stake. The mission that almost got Jarrett killed threatens to put Rae back in harm’s way. And if they surrender to their desires, it may cost them their lives.

I was not to into this book.  I didn’t feel the emotional pull between the characters.  I thought it would be more in depth.  I would have also liked more of a backstory with Rae and Jarrett.  The book tells us very little about their lives together before they broke apart for 2 years.  I think I could have related to Rae better had I known what she went through and not just had it glossed over.  I would have also liked to know if there was sexual tension with them earlier in the time together.  The book did not focus on that.  Jarrett came off as a jackass.  Even at the end, he was okay, but I didn’t fall in love with him.

I did like how even though Rae was strong willed and stood up for herself, we did get to see glimpse of the other side of her.

I gave this book 2.5 stars, but rounded up to 3.  It wasn’t a horrible story, but I thought more could be told to bring me into it.

Can a chance meeting at a candy store help heal a person?

Elle is broken.  Growing up with two brothers, a mother who’s a bitch and a drunk for a father has put Elle on a path for emotional disaster.  “They put the fun in dysfunctional.”  She refuses to get close to anyone, man or friend.  She is alone.  She refuses to date anyone because that leads to emotional attachments which she is strongly against.

Dan was at the store buying candy when he met Elle.  Dan is a lawyer and is enthralled with Elle and immediately asks her out.  She goes and the whirlwind of their romance begins.

“How a glimpse of pink could render a man mindless.  We all have the same parts, us women, yet every man I’ve ever been with has looked at men as through he’s never seen a naked woman before.  There is power in our bodies that men don’t have, secret and hidden places they yearn to explore over and over.  Woman’s bodies hold the mystery of blood and life, not just pleasure.”

Elle has so much to work through in this book to get herself back.  The emotional journey is hard for her.  I felt for her every step of the way.

“I’d spend a long time hiding in my cave.  No matter how much I might want to come out into the light.  I knew it would hurt my eyes.”

Positives:  I liked in the first half of the book, it really focused on Elle and her brokenness.  I like how the author was very descriptive with language.  In the second half of the book, it really picked up.  The emotional roller coaster and we finally find out what happened to Elle to make her so broken.  The last half I just gobbled up.  Sex scenes are hot!  The threesome was outstanding!

Negatives:  I wish there was Dan’s point of view.  I would have liked to know what he was thinking and feeling.  It was all one sided. For some reason the first half of the book, didn’t live up to the last half.  I got more of the punch towards the end.  I wanted to know why she thought she was dirty!

Overall, it was a good read.  The reason why Elle is the way she is was shocking and I felt for her.  Even though I was frustrated not knowing why she was the way she was, I kept reading frantically to get to that part.  I was not disappointed.

Bonds of Trust

Release date for book:  November 26, 2012

Copy provided by publisher for review through Netgalley.

Forty-four year old, divorce Cali Reynolds is looking for acceptance in her sexuality.  After being married for over twenty years to a man who had no interest in sex, she is ready to explore her sexuality.  She hesitantly joins the local BDSM club The Den.  She doesn’t know what she wants, but knows that she wants to feel and be touched.  After seven years of nothing, she is in desperate need.  She feels this club is her only hope.

Club owner Jake McCallister has had a rough life.  He suffered a great loss at ten years old with the death of his parents.  He uses his role as a Dom to hide away any emotional attachment.  If he doesn’t get close, then people can’t leave him.  The only friends he has are Seth and Deklan, who co-own the club with him.  Jake only has three months left of his five year contract with the club and wants to disappear again.  He is always running.  Seth and Deklan don’t want him to leave.

Upon the initial interview for The Den, Seth decides that Jake needs to do a second interview with Cali.  Seth says that he sees something in Cali and wants a second opinion.  Jake is hesitant at first, but agrees to the interview.  Upon meeting Cali, he has feelings inside of him that make him want to possess and love her.  He hasn’t ever felt this way about a sub before—ever.  These feelings scare him

Cali is a beautiful submissive to Jake and their trust and bond grow.

I really loved the connection between the two characters.  I felt the despair, longing, love, trust and completion throughout the book.  The author did a great job with her descriptions of feelings these characters had.

The BDSM aspect was there, but it wasn’t overplayed.  It felt real and genuine between these characters.  Every touch he gave her, I felt it too.  The BDSM scenes were hot and very descriptive. This was a romance story with BDSM scenes.  It did not focus on BDSM even though it was significant to the couple coming together.

I recommend this book to those who like a good contemporary romance with some kink; those who like to read BDSM or erotic books.
